In 1989 Saigon had only one European restaurant, beef pho was a rarity and coffee a luxury. That was when Vietnamese-American Alain Tan Huynh returned to his homeland to open the first high-end restaurants in the city and with it a new chapter for its culinary and hospitality industry.
