Have Hours Of Fun With Unique Knitting Patterns

It used to be that knitting was something only little old ladies did. Nowadays, however, it's popular with a younger generation of people who have discovered the joys of making something that is one of a kind. Gone are the days of boring old sweaters and bed socks. Now you will find unique knitting patterns for anything under the sun, from knit wall clocks to knit versions of popular foods like sandwiches.

The first project many knitters start with is making a scarf, which is easy and lets you practice while making something useful. To prevent yourself from getting bored, it helps to periodically change the color and texture of your yarn and make a striped scarf. For example, simply look at the way you are feeling and change the yarn to reflect the mood you're in. Alternatively, choose a bright blue for a sunny day and different shades of gray for various degrees of cloud cover and make a scarf that reflects the weather.

Knitting is a great way to keep your hands busy while you're watching TV. Make things more interesting by turning the hobby into a game similar to the drinking game where you need to drink a shot of liquor every time someone says a certain word or phrase. Watch a tennis match, for example, and change your yarn every time a player disagrees with the umpire.

Another way to have fun with yarn and needles is the practice known as guerilla knitting or yarn bombing. This involves covering an object in something knitted and colorful. It can be a tree or a lamppost or a bicycle. Yarn bombers have even covered buses, tanks and mailboxes. If you want to do something a little more practical, make socks for your furniture so that their legs won't damage the floor.

There are millions of chic hat designs available but a silly hat will always bring smiles to the faces of everyone tired of the cold. Big bunny ears or a hat in the shape of a frog are always a good choice, as are fake braids or dreadlocks. Some knitters even make hats with fake beards that act as a mask to keep your face nice and warm.

It's not only people who need to keep warm. Animals and birds have fur or feathers to keep away the cold but sometimes they need a little extra help. This can come in the form of sweaters for baby animals, for newly shorn sheep or for birds that lost their feathers. Even penguins need sweaters when they've been washed after an oil spill and don't have their natural protective oils anymore.

Many children love a teddy bear or a doll knit in soft, fluffy yarn. There's no reason, however, why you can't make different kinds of knit toys. After all, there are thousands of different animals to make, from bunnies to octopi. You will even find patterns for toy cars or zombie dolls.

The internet is a very useful resource for patterns, instructions and ideas. Over time your skills will improve so much that you will be able to come up with your own unique designs as well. Then a good dose of creativity is all you need to have endless fun with an age-old craft.
