How To Effectively Use A Charm Catcher

By
By Frank Bennett

Ancient societies held the belief that nature was connected through an energy stream. Animals, objects and people tapped their power from this singular stream. Dreams, both good and bad were found in the air. The charm catcher was used to confuse the bad dreams and allow the good ones to get to a person. This ensured that one had a good night sleep and luck during the day. Capturing the good charms and confusing the bad ones required a web.

The general design of dream catchers varied depending on personal preference. There were both small and large catchers. The components of making catchers could be obtained from specialty shops. They are available in the form of pendants that are used on necklaces. Since they can be used on different parts of the body, it is the individual who made that choice on design.

Traditionally, catchers were woven by grandmothers for their newborn grand children and hung over their sleeping area. This would enable children to have a peaceful night. Today, they are hang even on adults using bracelets and chains. This ensures that the adult is protected from harmful charms and will only encounter the good spirits. Feathers were the most common materials used when the catchers were to be left hanging on the bed.

The need to capture good charms while on the move and avoid the bad charms has pushed people away from feathers. Though feathers are still used as pendants, they are exposed to damage through water and sweat, among other secretions from the body . They have thus fallen out of favor and instead people are using crystals and other natural materials.

The overall design of a catcher depends on personal taste. Personal preference does not eliminate the web and the feather from the general design. The web is used for confusing bad omen while movement of the feather indicates a passing dream. Catchers come in different shapes, the most popular ones being circular. Some people prefer abstract shapes as long as the feather is there. The color is not a factor when designing a catcher.

Movement from the natural feather has allowed sculptors to exercise a bit of creativity. They have turned to metals like aluminum and copper among other popular ones used in manufacturing necklaces and pendants. Some of these feather images are concealed in ordinary bracelets and necklaces. Such concealing allows you to still adorn the catcher without being extra careful or conscious.

It is a ritual to take the catchers to the park before adorning them on your body. The idea is to allow the catcher to tap into the natural charms in the environment. A cotton bag is used to transport the charms because its softness protects them from harm. Catchers also need to move freely in order to capture bad dreams. As such, they are kept away from walls when used around beds. It is ok to hang it on the neck or a place where the feather is not restricted from movement.

Catchers are available in multiple shapes and colors. There are good fortunes and protection from harm when you make them a part of your life. It should be assimilated naturally to avoid excessive consciousness. A personal twist is acceptable because it does not reduce or affect its effectiveness.
